These pages (the English ones) are very much a work in progress, some of the content is still in German, some pages are missing and not all links work correctly. Please bear with us, we are working on it
The new dates for the 2010 events have been published!
Welcome to the European Bourbon and Rye Association
We are an association according to Swiss law and our purpose is to be a platform for those who are interested (and love) Amerian Bourbon and Rye whiskies. ThEuropean European Bourbon and Rye Association (EBRA) was started in january 2009 in Zürich (Switzerland) and is ready to welcome new members.
Everybody, living in Europe (the geographical Europe, not necessarily the political Europe) can become a member. The EBRA statutes describe how that works.
If you want to apply for membership, please fill out this form (here) and send it to us. We will then contact you and send you all financial and other details.
What we offer
There are two fixed offerings we provide today:- at least three time a year we organise an international event. Because most of our members (still) reside in Switzerland or Germany those are usually held in one of the two countries mentioned. That will change as soon as other countries gain a higher mebership number.
- One of our other goals is to buy one barrel of bourbon or rye a year. We have a savings account set up and it already hold some money. Members may participate in this Barrel fund and will, after a succesful buy, get the number of bottles they are entitled to at the costing price.
Kentucky Bourbon Festival (September 14 - 19, 2010)
The Kentucky Bourbon Festival, held every September in Bardstown, KY is the event for lovers of American whiskey. This year some, (hopefully many) of our members will visit the event and we will organise a couple of visits to various distilleries. The official website for the festival can be found here. The full programm for the festival is usually published somewhere during summer.
The main reason for visiting the festival is clearly the 'gazebo', a music stand behind one of the hotels in Bardstown where bourbon freaks from all over America (and some from Europe) gather at night and sample whiskies. Everybody brings at least one bottle along, varying from a regular bourbon to ancient and rare stuff and puts it on the table. Everybody can then freely sample all that's on the table. Allthough there is no check, you are supposed to be a member of 'straightbourbon.com' (SB) . An excellent reason to register there and participate in discussions about American Whsik(e)y. There is no better site than www.straightbourbon.com if you are interested in Bourbon and Rye, so: register today, it's free. An added advantage: SB members are available for discounts at the Bardstown liquor stores and in some hotels during the festival period.
We will make reservations at a hotel in Bardstown, organise visits to distilleries but we won't play travel agency. You will have to arrange you own flights and cars.
If you are interested in joining us to the festival (members only please), let us know through the contact form.
